Positive behaviour support is a form of applied behaviour analysis that uses a behaviour management system to understand what maintains an individual’s challenging behaviour and how to change it. People’s inappropriate behaviours are difficult to change because they are functional; they serve a purpose for them.
Within this course you will explore how we have approached “behaviours of concern” over the last 60 years in Australia. You will also gain a deep understanding of behaviour, including the five stages of behaviour escalation.
After this lesson you will be able to:
a) Know what “challenging behaviour” and “behaviours of concern” are.
b) Talk about the history of “behaviours of concern” in Australia.
c) Understand behaviour, including the five stages of behaviour escalation.
