1. The Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards – Part 1
In this course, we will introduce the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, following the recommendations from the Royal Commission to improve care. We will review the 7 strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, including person-centred care, clinical services, nutrition, and dementia-friendly environments. Then, we will examine the roles of aged care workers in meeting these standards through care plans, dementia training, feedback, and documentation, teaching them how to provide safe, high-quality care for diverse ageing individuals, utilising evidence-based mapping and monitoring tools.

In this course, we will explore the key concepts to enhance the lives of individuals through better care practices. Firstly, we’ll identify how choice and independence improve an individual’s quality of life, focusing on their physical, emotional, and social well-being. Next, we’ll discuss the Aged Care Act and how it supports greater independence by prioritising rights, dignity, and person-centred care. 5. Incident Management and Reporting – SIRS
In this course, you’ll discover the purpose and framework of the Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS), including the eight reportable incident types, reporting procedures, and compliance requirements. You’ll learn to identify reportable incidents using the decision support tool, review common examples, and analyse a scenario for deeper understanding. 6. The Mealtime and Dining Experience
In this course, you’ll learn about the importance of the mealtime and dining experience for ageing individuals in supporting their nutritional needs. Firstly, you will explore the challenges of ageing and how weight loss increases the risks of falls and infections. Next, you will discover the importance of respecting food preferences, cultures, and dietary needs while involving ageing individuals in menu planning to ensure tasty and nutritious meals. Then, you will learn how to create a positive dining experience. Lastly, you’ll learn the roles of aged care workers, dietitians, and speech pathologists in meal delivery and appetite monitoring for health in residential aged care facilities and home care.

7. Falls Prevention and Management

8. Dysphagia, IDDSI & Management of Choking
In this course, you will learn to understand and manage dysphagia, a condition that causes major trouble swallowing food and drink. Firstly, we will explore its impact on nutrition, hydration, and health in aged care. We will identify risks such as stroke or dental issues, and consequences including malnutrition, choking, and reduced quality of life. Next, we will explore texture modification using the IDDSI framework to make swallowing safer. Then, we will examine respecting individual choices through the Eating and Drinking with Acknowledged Risk approach, while promoting independence with strategies like hand-under-hand feeding. Lastly, we will discuss first aid methods in responding to choking emergencies.

13. Effective Progress Notes
This course equips you with the skills to write clear, effective progress notes tailored for aged care. First, you will learn what progress notes are, how they demonstrate service delivery, and their role in meeting compliance standards. Next, you’ll explore essential components, including documenting observations and interactions, to ensure accurate and meaningful records. You’ll also learn to use professional, appropriate language while recognising the legal significance of progress notes as protected, unalterable documents, even under subpoena. Throughout, you’ll become familiar with your responsibilities under the Aged Care Act, the updated Quality Standards, and the AN-ACC funding requirements, empowering you to deliver accountable, high-quality care.

In this course, we will explore dementia as a group of diseases that impair cognitive abilities such as memory, thinking, and daily functioning due to damage to brain nerve cells. We will examine its risk factors, signs, and symptoms, and then investigate how dementia alters brain anatomy and causes cognitive decline over time. Next, we will explore best-practice approaches for supporting ageing individuals with dementia. To conclude, we will highlight the multidisciplinary support team, focusing on the role of the aged care worker and key resources for providing effective care.

In this course, we begin by defining ‘Changed Behaviour’ as recognised in Aged Care contexts. Next, we will trace the evolution of behaviour support by examining the three predominant models of Aged Care and how their approaches have transformed over time. We will then investigate Behaviour Support, exploring its guiding principles and essential components of an effective behaviour framework. In this course, we will learn more about Behaviour Support in Aged Care. We will start by examining the ABC model of Positive Behaviour Support. Next, we will learn about responsive strategies to address changed behaviour. These strategies aim to lessen the causes of the behaviour or support it in ways that minimise distress or impact on the individual and others. Then, we will explore reactive strategies in aged care, emphasising a preference for proactive behaviour support. We will also revisit the five stages of behaviour escalation introduced in Behaviour Support in Aged Care—Part 1. Lastly, we will discover the five types of restrictive practices in aged care.

35. Behaviour Support – Part 3
In this course, you will understand how a person-centred Behaviour Support plan is created, and how to implement and monitor effective plans for individuals in aged care that proactively address changed behaviours with tailored strategies, moving beyond generic solutions. You will also master consistent plan implementation, adapting interventions to individual needs, addressing behaviour triggers, and aligning with legislative and evidence-based practices.
Additionally, you will learn the importance of accurate data collection using tools such as Behaviour Assessment Forms and Frequency Charts, alongside consultations, to evaluate the effectiveness of your strategy. Lastly, you will learn to gather additional data through progress notes and incident reports and recognise the role of the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC) in ensuring quality and safety in aged care.

- Understand how a person-centred Plan is created that aligns with Quality-of-Care Principles, respects individual needs, and minimises restrictive practices.

38. Trauma Informed Care
In this course, we’ll explore understanding trauma and its origins, including how it can sometimes be mistaken for dementia in ageing individuals. We’ll look at trauma-informed care, focusing on ways to foster safety, trust, and empowerment through giving choices. You’ll gain practical skills for handling trauma-related stress, like creating comfortable, safe spaces, offering options, establishing consistent routines, and using the KEEP C.A.L.M. approach. Finally, we’ll talk about vicarious trauma and share helpful tools to set healthy boundaries and manage emotions, so you can stay balanced and avoid burnout.

47. Assisting Individuals with Medication – Part 1
This course will give you the knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals with their medication effectively. You will learn what medication is, the different types of medications, and the importance of medication reviews.
