1. NDIS Foundations
Within this course you will get an in-depth understanding of NDIS Foundations. You will see how the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework has been established to protect NDIS participants’ safety and the quality of services provided to participants under the scheme. You will learn about the framework principles and objectives, the NDIS Code of Conduct, the NDIS Practice Standards and lastly the role of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

2. Abuse and Neglect
Within this course, you will get an understanding of your obligations for identifying, preventing and reporting Abuse and Neglect. You will learn how critical these obligations are for you, your participants, and your organisation. We will discuss the definition of abuse and neglect, how to
identify warning signs and you will learn how to respond and where to report abuse and neglect incidents.

3. Duty of Care, Informed Choice and Dignity of Risk
This course will help you to understand your obligations for Duty of Care, Informed Choice, and Dignity of Risk. You will learn how critical these obligations are for you, your participants, and your organisation. We will discuss what a breach of Duty of Care is and its subsequent consequences. Lastly, you will learn how to support your participant to make informed choices and live a full and rich life with dignity of risk.

- Explain what duty of care, informed choice and dignity of risk are.
- Detail your obligations for duty of care, informed choice, and dignity of risk.
- Explain what a breach of duty of care is and how this happens.

4. Complaints and Reportable Incidents
In this course you will learn about receiving complaints and understand why complaints are important to you, your organistion and its participants. You will learn best practices for handling complaints. And lastly, you will learn what reportable incidents are and how to comply with your organisation’s policy and procedures for reporting.

5. Mealtime and Dysphagia Management
In this course you will learn why mealtime management is so important for participants who experience difficulty swallowing. You will learn about the NDIS Mealtime Management Practice Standard and Quality Indicators. The course will give you a sound understanding of how this practice standard impacts your role and responsibilities as a Disability Support Professional providing mealtime support. You will understand how a mealtime management plan is developed and how you can implement a participant’s mealtime management plan to support safe and enjoyable mealtimes.
After this lesson you will be able to:
- Understand mealtime management.
- Understand the NDIS Practice Standard for Mealtime Management.
- Identify Dysphagia and associated risks
- Provide mealtime support to participants.
- Proactively manage risks and mealtime difficulties.
When a provider is supporting participants who rely on high intensity personal daily activity HIDPA supports, they need to make sure their workers have the skills and knowledge described in the high intensity support skills descriptors. This course covers one of these high intensity daily activity supports. For more information, you can access a copy of the high intensity support skills descriptors.
Note: Registered NDIS providers can only provide the high intensity daily activity supports that are set out in their certificate of registration.

6. Emergency and Disaster Management
In this course, you will learn what constitutes an emergency or a disaster and what types of situations this might apply to. You will learn about your responsibilities when facing an emergency situation and how to best support your participant. You will learn how to plan for and be ready for an emergency situation and how to keep yourself and your participant safe.

7. Introduction to Disability Support – Part 1
Within this course you will explore the alarming, inspiring and important facts and history of Disability in Australia. You will gain knowledge and practical skills around the different disability models and disability etiquette. This is an essential course for any person joining the Disability Services Industry.

10. Professional Boundaries
This course explores the simple but complicated nature of creating and keeping professional boundaries. Creating Professional Boundaries is very important in the role of a Disability Support Professional as the participant can often perceive the paid worker as a friend. This course will help you understand why professional boundaries are necessary, the risks associated with boundary crossings or violations, and how to recognise early warning signs of boundary issues.

- Describe how boundaries are used for personal and professional relationships.
- Explain how to create strong professional boundaries.

11. Effective Progress Notes
Entering Progress Notes is an essential part of your role as a Disability Support Professional. Throughout this course you will gain knowledge and skills to create accurate and informative Progress Notes. You will also learn the legal requirements of a progress note.

Work Health and Safety
15. Keeping Safe at Work – Part 1
In this course, you will learn about Work, Health, and Safety (WHS), including an understanding of risk and the WHS laws and regulations that protect Australian workers. We will explore specific risks associated with working in the disability sector and the responsibilities of both employees and employers to maintain a safe work environment. Next, we will review three key WHS processes: consultation, cooperation, and coordination, which are designed to ensure collaborative management of WHS matters by involving both employee and employer perspectives. Lastly, the course will cover the unique WHS risks associated with remote work, their impact on workers, and the necessary measures to manage these risks and ensure the safety of all employees.

16. Keeping Safe at Work – Part 2
In part 2 of the Keeping Safe at Work course, you will build on your understanding of Work Health and Safety (WHS) risks and dive into risk management approaches in greater detail. You’ll learn about a 4-stage risk management process and explore specific tools such as the risk matrix, used to understand, classify, and prioritise risk management initiatives. We’ll explore psychosocial hazards, and their impact on employee psychological and physical health, highlighting employer obligations to manage these hazards in the workplace. Lastly, we’ll learn about WHS reporting and reiterate specific employer and employee responsibilities to ensure a safe and supportive workplace for all workers.

17. Manual Handling – Part 1
Knowing the right techniques for safe and effective manual handling can prevent injury and pain. Within this course, you will first learn what manual handling is and the relevant legislation. You will then learn how the risk management framework helps us to meet our legal obligations. Next, you will learn about risk assessment tools and how to use the hierarchy of control, you will be shown biomechanical principles (how best to use our body to lift safely) and lastly, you will be given some handy safety tips.
After this lesson you will be able to:
- State what Manual Handling is and know relevant legislation.
- Explain how organisations and their employees use risk management tools to manage hazardous manual handling tasks.
- Explain why it is beneficial to have a collaborative approach to risk management.

18. Manual Handling – Part 2
Within this course you will have the opportunity to build knowledge in the Manual Handling equipment you might use as a Disability Support Professional. This course will also demonstrate “HOW TO” assist a participant to move. The equipment being discussed includes transfer belts, a hoist and sling, slide sheets and transfer boards.
After this lesson you will be able to:
- Assist a person to move in a safe way.
- Recognise the different equipment types you might use.
- Explain when and how to use a transfer belt.
- Explain when and how to use a hoist and sling.

19. Waste Management
In this course you will learn the importance of waste management and how this applies to your role as a Disability Support Professional. You will gain a deeper understanding of waste including the types of waste you will encounter. You will learn how to safely manage, treat and dispose of

20. Workplace Fire Safety and Prevention
Within this course you will get everything you need to know on how to prevent a fire and what to do in case of a fire in your workplace.
After this lesson you will be able to:
- Know how to prevent fires.
- Know how to safely evacuate.
- Fight a fire (when it is safe to do so).

21. Workplace Bullying and Harassment
In this course, you will learn what workplace bullying and harassment is and how to identify behaviours that reasonably constitute bullying and harassment. We will go through what sexual harassment is, what this can look like in the workplace, and the impact on individuals, work, and organisations. You’ll learn how bullying can start, how to recognise factors that can promote a culture of bullying, and how to identify signs of bullying within your workplace. Lastly, you’ll learn how to respond to and report any incidents of bullying and harassment, the steps involved in investigating allegations, and sources of support when making a report.
After this lesson you will be able to:
- Explain what workplace bullying and harassment is, and know what behaviours to look out for.
- Describe what sexual harassment is and its impact on individuals and organisations.
- Identify how bullying starts, signs it is occurring, and factors that promote these behaviours.
- Respond to and report bullying and harassment in line with your organisation’s policies and procedures.

22. COVID-19 and Disability Services
This course is focused on building COVID-19 (Coronavirus) infection control and pandemic awareness.
All content is aligned to the latest information from the:
1) World Health Organisation (WHO),
2) Australian Government Department of Health,
3) NDIS disaster response page for disability-related updates and advice (based on the Coronavirus Emergency Response Plan) and
4) NDIS Commission Provider Alerts / Newsletters.
The course will discuss the fundamentals of infection prevention and control for COVID-19 including:
- COVID-19 – what is it?
- Common signs and symptoms.
- Understand how it is spread.
- Know what to do when you suspect a person (or yourself) may have COVID-19.
- Preventative actions to keep you and your participants’ safe.
- Know where to find reliable sources of information about COVID-19.

23. PPE for Disability Support Professionals
In this course you will learn the importance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and your responsibilities as a Disability Support Professional. You will learn the different types of PPE available and how and when to apply these in your role. You will learn how to properly equip and remove PPE in order to protect yourself and others.

24. Hand Hygiene
Within this course you will learn what hand hygiene is, how infections spread, and the importance of washing your hands to prevent the spread of infection. You will learn how to effectively clean your hands using alcohol-based rub and soap and water techniques. Lastly, you will identify when to routinely wash your hands during the day and when supporting participants.

- Understand what hand hygiene is and how it can prevent the spread of infection.

25. Infection Control
Within this course you will learn what infection prevention and control is, and what can be done to prevent infections from spreading. You’ll learn about nine globally recognised infection control precautions that will influence how you provide supports to all participants. You’ll understand what additional precautions are needed based on an infection’s mode of transmission and lastly, you will understand your responsibilities in supporting participants to stay healthy and infection free.
After this lesson you will be able to:
- Understand what infection prevention and control is, the chain of infection and what can be done to prevent infection spread.
- Identify nine standard infection control precautions that must be implemented when supporting participants.
- Describe specific transmission-based precautions used for infections spread via contact, respiratory or airborne modes of transmission.

26. Positive Behaviour Support – Part 1
In Part 1 of our 3-part series on Positive Behaviour Support we will introduce you to behaviour support and explore some important foundational concepts. We will look definitions of behaviour and how behaviour support has evolved historically in Australia. We’ll explore Positive Behaviour Support, a contemporary framework and person-centered approach to supporting behaviour. Then we’ll dive into common examples of behaviours of concern, the function of behaviours and step you through how behaviours of concern escalate.

- Understand what Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is and identify key components of PBS approach

27. Positive Behaviour Support – Part 2
In Part 2 of our 3-part series on Positive Behaviour Support we will expand on the information provided in part 1 and look at more closely at the purpose or function of a behaviour as we introduce the ABC of positive behaviour support. You will learn about responsive strategies that are planned and can reduce or prevent the behaviours from occurring. We will also look at reactive strategies that can be used in the moment to respond to a behaviour of concern. 90. Wound Care and Pressure Injury Management – Part 2
In part 2 of this course, you will learn more about your role and responsibilities providing support for participants with complex wounds. You will learn about Wound Care Plans and documentation requirements associated with wound care procedures. You will understand the skills, knowledge, and competencies you must demonstrate to perform high risk wound care procedures. Lastly, you will learn about common complications, risks, and your role in identifying, reporting, and taking action to minimise risk and manage complications associated with complex wounds and pressure injuries.

- Understand your role as a disability support professional in monitoring participants who require wound care support.

91. Stopping the Cycle of Shame
Within this course, you will gain an understanding of unhelpful shame in the context of the disability support sector. We will explore some of the common causal factors of shame, the impact of shame on individuals at a psychological and neurobiological level, and we will learn how to identify individuals experiencing frequent or chronic shame states. Lastly, we will explore some of the evidence-based interventions you can implement to help individuals to recover from unhelpful shame states and preventative interventions to reduce an individual’s vulnerability to shame.

Within this course, you will gain an understanding of suicide, its prevalence in Australia and some of the more common demographic and environmental factors. You will learn the key components of suicide risk assessment and referral, how to help at-risk individuals develop distress tolerance and how to assist at-risk individuals in the development of positive protective factors which can help reduce their overall risk of suicide.

94. Support Coordination – Part 1
Within this course, you will learn what Support Coordination is and how it has developed since the introduction of the NDIS. We’ll explore the different levels of support and you will learn which participants can access Support Coordination as part of their NDIS plan. Next, you’ll learn about the role of a Support Coordinator and we’ll identify 5 key activities they use to build the capacity of participants to understand, implement, and monitor their NDIS plan. We will also explore common challenges Support Coordinators experience and highlight important differences between this role and case management or disability advocacy support. 95. Support Coordination – Part 2
Within this course, you will learn about Participant consent and processes involved in gaining consent to access plan information. We’ll explore the planning process and discover information contained within a Participant’s NDIS plan. We’ll highlight the importance of setting person-centred goals to inform what funding will be included across NDIS support categories and understand how funding can be used to purchase supports. You’ll learn how travel is funded to support participants to access work, study and community activities, and know what types of travel providers can charge a participant plan for. Lastly, you’ll learn about three phases of support and specific activities a Support Coordinator can do to understand the participant and their plan, take action so the person is connected to supports, and monitor plan implementation.

Within this course, you will learn how to provide supports for Children and Young People aged 9-18 years. We’ll first look at the prevalence and most common types of disability in this age group and explore best practice approaches to providing supports. Then, we’ll introduce Person-centred Thinking tools, stepping out how these tools can be used to understand the participant’s strengths, interests, and priorities for support. 98. Keeping Children and Young People Safe
In this course, you will learn what child safety is, and the critical role you play in keeping the children and young people you support safe from harm. You will learn how Australian organisations implement the National Child Safe Principles to prioritise child safety and to embed child safety into their policies, procedures, and activities. Next, you will get an overview of what Risk of Significant Harm (ROSH) is, and learn how to identify various types of abuse. We will also explore the responsibilities of Mandatory Reporters in responding to signs of abuse, and learn the process for making a child safety report. Lastly, you will discover how to collaborate with the team supporting the child or young person to help them develop self-protective behaviours and confidently speak up if they feel unsafe.
After this course you will be able to:
- Know what child safety is, the role of mandatory reporters, and your obligations under the NDIS Code of Conduct.
- Define Risk of Significant Harm (ROSH), recognise different types of abuse, and know how to respond to a disclosure of abuse.

99. Supporting Children and Young People to Communicate
Within this course, you will learn how to support Children and Young People to communicate effectively. We’ll first look at what communication is, some skills required for effective communication, and understand why communication is considered a universal human right. Then, we’ll explore using person-centred approaches and tools to find out more about a child’s communication style, skills, and preferences for support. We’ll explore best practice approaches such as Total Communication and break down Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) approaches. You’ll learn about the role of Speech Pathologists and understand what you can do to be a supportive Communication Partner. We’ll explore visual supports in more detail and highlight some common examples of visual supports that can help children and young people build their independence in daily routines and navigate social situations. Lastly, you’ll learn about critical communication skills and the key role a Disability Support professional plays in supporting children and young people to develop valuable self-protective, functional, and social communication skills.

100. Supporting LGBTIQASB+ People
In this course, you will learn how to provide person-centered, gender-affirming supports for LGBTIQASB+ Participants. You will discover what the term LGBTIQASB+ represents, the history of this acronym, and recognise the importance of language and specific terminology. Next, you’ll find out about sex, sexuality, and gender, using the Genderbread Unicorn analogy to break down gender identity and expression and related concepts like sex assigned at birth and attraction. You’ll learn about intersectionality and understand the impact on LGBTIQASB+ Participants accessing important social and medical supports. Lastly, you’ll discover how you as a Disability Support Professional can provide valuable support to LGBTIQASB+ participants to connect and feel included within their LGBTIQASB+ and disability communities.
