In this course, we will introduce the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, following the recommendations from the Royal Commission to improve care. We will review the 7 strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, including person-centred care, clinical services, nutrition, and dementia-friendly environments. Then, we will examine the roles of aged care workers in meeting these standards through care plans, dementia training, feedback, and documentation, teaching them how to provide safe, high-quality care for diverse ageing individuals, utilising evidence-based mapping and monitoring tools.

5. Incident Management and Reporting – SIRS

In this course, you’ll discover the purpose and framework of the Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS), including the eight reportable incident types, reporting procedures, and compliance requirements. Next, you will discover the importance of respecting food preferences, cultures, and dietary needs while involving ageing individuals in menu planning to ensure tasty and nutritious meals. 7. Falls Prevention and Management

8. Dysphagia, IDDSI & Management of Choking

In this course, you will learn to understand and manage dysphagia, a condition that causes major trouble swallowing food and drink. Firstly, we will explore its impact on nutrition, hydration, and health in aged care. We will identify risks such as stroke or dental issues, and consequences including malnutrition, choking, and reduced quality of life. Next, we will explore texture modification using the IDDSI framework to make swallowing safer. Then, we will examine respecting individual choices through the Eating and Drinking with Acknowledged Risk approach, while promoting independence with strategies like hand-under-hand feeding. Lastly, we will discuss first aid methods in responding to choking emergencies.

We will examine its risk factors, signs, and symptoms, and then investigate how dementia alters brain anatomy and causes cognitive decline over time. Next, we will explore best-practice approaches for supporting ageing individuals with dementia. To conclude, we will highlight the multidisciplinary support team, focusing on the role of the aged care worker and key resources for providing effective care.

The course covers equipment for mobility, stability, independence, daily activities, and falls prevention.
