The Aged Care Foundations Pathway combines 8 essential modules to build core skills for safe, high-quality, person-centred aged care in line with the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards and the Aged Care Act.

You will cover:

    • The 7 strengthened Quality Standards (Parts 1 & 2): person-centred care, clinical services, nutrition, dementia support, compliance, risk management, and audit readiness.
    • Preventing and responding to elder abuse (all forms).
    • Promoting choice, independence, dignity of risk, and quality of life.
    • Incident management and reporting under the Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS).
    • Enhancing mealtime and dining experiences to meet nutritional and cultural needs.
    • Falls prevention and management (risks, strategies, post-fall care).
    • Dysphagia management using the IDDSI framework, texture modification, acknowledged risk approaches, and choking response.

This pathway equips aged care workers with evidence-based practices, documentation, monitoring tools, and collaborative strategies to support the safety, dignity, and well-being of diverse ageing individuals in residential and home care settings.

    • Know how to report elder abuse to safeguard ageing individuals effectively.
  • Understanding Choice, Independence and Quality of Life
    • Recognise how choice and independence affect an individual’s quality of life.

    • Identify independence and risk-taking in Aged Care, highlighting the balance between safety and the dignity of risk to empower individuals.

  • Falls Prevention and Management

    • Understand Fall Prevention Strategies.
    • Implement Post-Fall Management and Support
  • Dysphagia, IDDSI & Management of Choking
    • Define dysphagia, describe who it affects, and explain how it impacts ageing individuals.
    • Discuss texture modification of diets, foods, and fluids in aged care settings.
    • Explain the various strategies to promote safer swallowing for individuals.
    • Describe the steps in responding to incidents of choking to ensure safe mealtimes.
