In this bundle course, you’ll discover how to master safe and effective manual handling techniques to prevent injuries, reduce pain for both ageing individuals and workers, and promote comfort, independence, and dignity in aged care settings. We begin by defining manual handling and exploring relevant legislation and obligations under Australian workplace health and safety requirements.

You’ll then examine the risk management framework, learn to use risk assessment tools, and apply the hierarchy of control to identify and minimise hazards. The course covers key biomechanical principles—including optimising body mechanics for safe lifting, transferring, and repositioning—along with practical safety tips you can apply immediately.

You’ll also learn practical ways to support ageing individuals to move safely and comfortably by assessing their needs using care plans, adhering to the Code of Conduct for Aged Care Workers (focusing on consent, communication, and privacy), and using appropriate equipment for mobility, stability, independence, daily activities, and falls prevention.

This bundle aligns with the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, equipping workers with essential knowledge and practical skills to deliver safe, respectful, and person-centred manual handling that protects health, enhances well-being, and improves the quality of life for ageing individuals.
