Knowing the right techniques for safe and effective manual handling can prevent injury and pain. In this manual handling training course, you will first learn what manual handling is and the relevant legislation. You will then learn how the risk management framework helps us to meet our legal obligations. Next, you will learn about risk assessment tools and how to use the hierarchy of control, you will be shown biomechanical principles (how best to use our body to lift safely) and, lastly, you will be given handy safety tips for all manual handling tasks.

After this lesson you will be able to:

  1. State what Manual Handling is and know relevant legislation.
  2. Explain how organisations and their employees use risk management tools to manage hazardous manual handling tasks.
  3. Explain why it is beneficial to have a collaborative approach to risk management.
  4. Show others what good manual handling looks like, aligned to biomechanical principles.
  5. Share manual handling safety tips and steps you can take as a Disability Support Professional to keep you and others safe.
