Within this course, you will get the knowledge and tools required to support a participant who is reliant on PEG feeding. We will start by learning how a person’s nutrition is supported via enteral feeding. We’ll define the different types of enteral feeding and explain why a person may need this approach. Next, you will learn what percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) feeding is, the specialty equipment used to support PEG feeding, and the different methods of administering PEG feeds. Lastly, we’ll go over potential risks, complications, and your role within the team supporting PEG feeds and related activities like PEG tube and stoma care.

Learning Outcomes

After completing our Peg Feeding Training, you will be able to:

  1. Know what enteral feeding is, and why people may need this form of nutritional support.
  2. Describe what PEG feeding is, and identify the equipment used, such as gastrostomy feeding tubes.
  3. Identify the different types of PEG feeds, describe how they are administered, and know the role of a Disability Support Professional in administering PEG feeds.
  4. Recognise risks and complications associated with PEG feeds, including what action must be taken to promote the health and safety of participants.
